2020 WYC qualification

The 2020 WESPA Youth Championship (WYC) will tentatively be held in Sri Lanka.

Singapore is expected to be allocated 10 spots.


The qualification period (QP) runs between 1 January 2020 and 30 September 2020.

A youth player is eligible to represent Singapore at WYC 2020 if he or she is:

  1. a Singapore citizen or permanent resident from the end of qualifying period to the end of the WYC;
  2. an SA member from the end of the QP to the end of the WYC.
  3. is born on 1st January 2003 or later;
  4. has played a minimum of 24 SA-rated games during the QP;
  5. has played in at least two different* SA-rated tournaments during the QP;

SSSG counts as one tournament, regardless of the level of progression in the tournament.

Byes conceded by the player, such as forfeiture due to lateness, will not count towards the required number of games.

Qualification Slots

Two types of slots will be used in qualification: Open Slots and Reserved Slots.

Under 'Open Slots', at least 80% of representatives will be selected based on rating as at end of QP.

Under 'Reserved Slots', there will be at least one slot reserved for a player aged below 13 (as of 1 Jan 2020), subjected to review by end June 2020. The number will be maintained or adjusted based on the number of primary school players who have played at least 1 SA-rated game for the period 1 Jan 2020 - 30 Jun 2020.

The Reserved Slot will be allocated to the next qualifying youth player if there are no players aged below 13 meeting the qualification criteria.

Players aged below 13 who qualify by rating will be given an Open Slot.

Queries and registrations are to be directed to The SA committee will be final arbiter in the case of any dispute or interpretation of these criteria. The SA committee reserves the right to modify these criteria.
