6th Causeway Scrabble Challenge

Dear Fellow Scrabblers,

I am pleased to annouce that the 6th Causeway Scrabble Challenge will be held at Zon Regency Hotel in Johor Bahru, Malaysia from 29th November to 2nd December 2007.

I am also pleased to announce that we will have 8 countries in the Premier Division this year. Top 5 players from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, The Philippines, Australia, UK, Canada and USA will be competing on a team event basis to see which country will emerge champion. The individual top prize for Premier Division is USD5,000.

As usual, we will also have an Open Division for those who did not make it to the Premier Division. They will be competing in a 26-game tournament with the individual top prize of RM5,000. (Exchange rate is USD1 to RM3.50 )

Teams:         Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, The Philippines, Australia, Canada, UK and USA

Qualification:

- Top 5 players from each country based on ratings of each country as of 30 September 2007 or earlier as determined by Scrabble Association of each country.

- The next player on the rating list will be invited if any of top 5 players could not make it.

Format: 35 games

(Team round-robin only, i.e. each country plays the other countries once)

Time per game: 25 minutes each

Challenge Rule: 5 points penalty per word challenged

Dear Fellow Scrabblers,

As you all know that the WSC will be held in Mumbai in early November, there will be slight changes to the 6th Causeway Scrabble Challenge that was announced in January this year.

In the Master section, we shall have 6 teams instead of the original 8. Team Australia will be defending their title. The other teams will be Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, The Philippines and Team "International". The format will be the same as before and we will have 5 players in each team with one full round robin against the other 5 teams. In other words, a total of 25 games will be played over 3 days from 30 November till 2 December 2007. The criteria for Team 'International" will be for players who are not from the other 5 countries and has an International rating above 1800. It shall be based on first-come-first-serve basis.

As usual, we will also have an Open Division for those who did not make it to the Premier Division. They will be competing in a 22-game tournament during the same period.
